At the beginning of each month, we continue the tradition of honoring our wonderful consultant team by selecting a member that has went above and beyond carrying out expert work while living our core values. The nominee is chosen based on their outstanding performance on-site in addition to their ability to live and create the MHA difference. Our wide team of experts at MHA leaves much to consider, yet after assistance from the leadership team, Derek Buchanan has been selected as November’s Consultant of the Month!
Derek joined MHA in May of 2022 where he quickly established himself within the consulting team. “Derek is great on projects, I’ve heard employees and consultants alike praise his detail-oriented approach to complete a job quickly” said senior consultant, Keri Shockley when asked about Derek’s contributions. The MHA team warmly welcomes Derek’s presence on projects both on-site and remote. His innovation-first approach brings a unique solution to any job, making clients feel valued during any tough implementation.
Background
Derek was born in Dallas, Texas but is originally from Paraguay, South America. His work experience is vast, from working as a test engineer with Samsung as well as business consulting through his company Meta Mate which is an international cooperative in the EU and South America that supports small family farmers and their craft of creating organic artisan Yerba Mate while simultaneously engaging in reforestation efforts. The company focuses on restoration efforts specifically in the Atlantic and Amazon forests, and he spends lots of time visiting these places and coordinating positive change. His business consulting background drew him to implementations position with HCHB where he picked up the necessary skills to excel at MHA. When off the job, Derek enjoys traveling and meeting new people. He has a deep interest in different cultures, he loves music, and enjoys crafting African drums, Handpans, and Harps in his spare time.
MHA Experience
As an MHA consultant, Derek works as a software implementation expert, specializing in optimizations for home health agencies. His background in business consulting, and software testing gives him a unique perspective when executing optimizations. His specialties lie in business administration, adult education, and communication. These skills translate wonderfully to the challenging environment of healthcare consulting, as understanding a client’s needs is an essential part of creating long-lasting solutions for any agency.
Derek’s favorite MHA core value is EQ over IQ as he has witnessed thoughtful collaboration leading to innovative decisions, improving the productivity and success of many jobs he’s done within MHA. He says MHA’s team always seems open to collaboration, allowing fresh ideas to foster throughout all projects while creating innovative solutions. Derek attributes the many successes he’s been involved with as the outcome of collaboration amongst diverse team members, ready to bring clarity to ambiguity while pushing for innovative solutions. Derek’s innovative, and detail-oriented approach was mentioned by many of our senior consultant team, it’s part of the many reasons he has found great success at MHA.
We asked Derek what his favorite part of working at MHA is and he said “Everyone is super nice, helpful, and knowledgeable, which in turn allows MHA to have such a competitive advantage with its diverse skillsets. MHA has great teamwork among consultants that translates to clients having utmost satisfaction with job outcomes.” Derek’s desire to meet new people, learn and uphold wonderful communication has improved many jobs he has been a part of.
